Σύμφωνα με την Palo Alto Networks, το malware με την ονομασία WireLurker έχει εξαπλωθεί από το Maiyadi App Store (κινέζικο App Store για το OS X) και έχει μολύνει περισσότερους από 350 χιλιάδες υπολογιστές, οι οποίοι με τη σειρά τους μολύνουν τις iOS φορητές συσκευές της Apple.
 
Το WireLurker "μεταδίδεται", όταν οι συσκευές με iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) συνδεθούν μέσω USB με τον μολυσμένο υπολογιστή.

Microsoft has issued an update to Office 2011 for OS X, which closes a critical vulnerability that may allow remote code execution from an attacker.

With this vulnerability a maliciously crafted Word document or e-mail message in Outlook (with Word configured as the e-mail reader) could give an attacker the execution rights as the current user, allowing them to arbitrarily run code on the affected system.

Microsoft's AutoUpdate tool is the most convenient way to apply the update.

While this update is a run-of-the-mill closure of identified vulnerabilities, be sure to keep your system fully updated. While there are undoubtedly other undocumented vulnerabilities in software, malware developers often use known and patched security holes in software, in hopes that they can hook someone who has not updated and secured their system.

Therefore, be sure to always keep your software fully updated.

In addition to security vulnerabilities, this update fixes an error with IMAP accounts in Outlook, where the flagged or starred state of messages is not properly retained.

The update is available through Microsoft's AutoUpdate utility as a 113MB download, but can also be downloaded from the Microsoft Download Center. After installing, the version of Office on your system should be 14.3.5.

There has been clarification since this story broke. Adobe has not released the CS2 software for free. Instead, it has cancelled its CS2 license management servers, so for those with existing licenses it is now offering downloads that do not require contact with the licensing servers. This service is only going to be available for those with existing Adobe CS2 licenses, which will be verified when creating the Adobe account to download the software.

Adobe's popular Creative Suite has been developed way beyond the capabilities of the initial versions of the software; however, older versions such as CS2 are still very powerful image-manipulation and content-creation tools. Still, they are no longer supported by the company and could cause problems or fail to run when installed on computers running the latest versions of OS X or Windows.

Nevertheless, if you have an older computer or have virtual-machine software configured with an older operating system compatible with CS2, then you should be able to get CS2 running. Unfortunately for Mac users, CS2 is a PowerPC application, so it will require the use of either an Intel Mac running OS X 10.4 through 10.6 with the Rosetta translator installed, or the use of an older PowerPC Mac.

The only versions of the OS X client that Apple supports in virtualization are those that do not include the Rosetta translator (OS X 10.7 and higher) which is required for running older PowerPC code on an Intel-based Mac. Therefore, while you can either virtualize the Server versions of OS X 10.6 (which is rather expensive and no longer available) or earlier, or hack virtualization software to allow installation of the OS X 10.6 client, the best option for current Mac users is to perhaps configure a Windows XP virtual machine and install the Windows version of CS2.

The CS2 download requires you to first get an Adobe account and a CS2 license, then download the installer from the CS2 downloads page.

Since this release, the Adobe Web site has been flooded with activity, so you may have to either wait for it to come back online, or access the download links directly through the SlickDeals Web site (the previous link on this page direct-links to Adobe's servers).

Ένα νέο κενό ασφαλείας ανακαλύφθηκε σε όλες τις τελευταίες εκδόσεις της Java, μέσω του οποίου θα μπορούσε να εγκατασταθεί malware σε περίπου 1 δισεκατομμύριο Mac και PC παγκοσμίως.

 Ο ερευνητής ασφαλείας συστημάτων Adam Gowdiak ανακάλυψε το bug εχθές, το οποίο και αφορά τις εκδόσεις της Java 5, 6 και 7.  Το πρόβλημα δε, είναι ιδιαίτερα σημαντικό και για τους  χρήστες Mac OS X από την έκδοση Snow Leopard 10.6 και τις νεότερες στις οποίες η Java ήταν προεγκατεστημένη.
 
Ο Gowdiak δεν έχει δώσε περισσότερες λεπτομέρειες στη δημοσιότητα και τονίζει πως έχει ενημερώσει λεπτομερώς την Oracle, κατασκευάστρια της Java, η οποία προτίθεται να εκδώσει ενημέρωση ασφαλείας - ας ελπίσουμε πριν το επόμενο καθιερωμένο update της, που είναι προγραμματισμένο για τις 16 Οκτωβρίου.
 
Ο αριθμός του 1 δισεκατομμυρίου υπολογιστών, προκύπτει από τα στοιχεία τής Oracle, σχετικά με τις εγκαταστάσεις της Java παγκοσμίως.
 
Τελευταία, έχουν σημειωθεί αρκετά σοβαρά κρούσματα με τη Java, με το πιο πρόσφατο να "αναγκάζει" τη Mozilla να πάρει την πρωτοβουλία να συστήσει στους χρήστες να απενεργοποιήσουν το Java plug in, για την ασφάλειά τους.

Μετά από 3,5 χρόνια συνεχούς ανάπτυξης η νέα έκδοση του αγαπημένου GIMP, του ελεύθερου και… τούμπανου προγράμματος επεξεργασίας εικόνας κυκλοφόρησε! Τα κυριότερα χαρακτηριστικά που περιμέναμε όλοι από αυτήν τη νέα έκδοση είναι ότι η εφαρμογή τρέχει σε ένα ενιαίο παράθυρο (παλιότερα ήταν 3 διαφορετικά), η σε πολύ μεγάλο ποσοστό μεταφορά του πυρήνα της εφαρμογής στην καινούρια τεχνολογία GEGL που θα επιτρέπει τη μη καταστρεπτική επεξεργασία εικόνων και πολύ καλύτερη ποιότητα, καλύτερη υποστήριξη για layers, και άλλα που μπορείτε να δείτε στα release notes!

Να σημειωθεί ότι πριν καιρό, ένας από τους βασικούς developers του gimp για προσωπικούς λόγους είχε αποχωρήσει από την ομάδα ανάπτυξης με αποτέλεσμα η κυκλοφορία της νέας έκδοσης να καθυστερήσει αρκετά (3.5 χρόνια!). Βέβαια, πλέον οι developers ατενίζουν το μέλλον με αισιοδοξία και το μόνο σίγουρο είναι στο μέλλον θα δούμε την ήδη υψηλή ποιότητα της εφαρμογής να ανεβαίνει κατακόρυφα!
